Scatterlings of Sinthian by Andria Bergart
An exploration of pattern, color and culture.
After her Fulbright Scholarship trip to West Africa to spend time in a textile factory in Ghana, artist Andrea Bergart began to see patterns all around her.
"Scatterlings of Sinthian collects patterns and colors that I observed in markets, nature and daily life during my artist residency in Sinthian, Senegal. These images fueled my drawings and sun prints and provided a visual connection to an unfamiliar culture and environment.”
Scatterlings of Sinthian takes its name from African musician Johnny Clegg’s album “Scatterlings of Africa”. to Bergart, Clegg’s album embodies a certain rhythm and persona that resonates deeply with the inspiration for her book.
